I've seen Razer verify these claims at an event, so they're not pure (ahem) snake oil, but I'd be skeptical of anyone who could say they felt a large distinction between the optical switches and the Omron switches in older models. The company claims that these components both shave fractions of a millisecond off each click response and make the panels significantly more durable. Then there are the switches beneath the click panels, which are now the esports-minded optical switches that premiered in the Razer Viper. That's a sizable upgrade, particularly on the accuracy front, though not one most people will see often.
The V2 features Razer's Focus+ sensor, which tracks at up to 20,000dpi and as fast as 650 inches per second. It's time to ask what the DeathAdder's done for you lately, and the answers are mostly under the hood. On the other hand, while mouse shape is very important, it's been more than a decade since the original DeathAdder, and you can get similar shapes for less money. Other than that occasional disruption, though, the DeathAdder offers a very comfortable ride. The DeathAdder V2 also weighs 2.9 ounces, a significant drop from the DeathAdder Elite (3.7 ounces).Īfter all this time, I've come to find one nitpick: The side buttons sit a little bit further back than I'd like, forcing you to bend your thumb back. At 1.5 by 2.7 by 5 inches, it's slightly smaller than Razer's Basilisk Ultimate. And while the V2 looks the same, it isn't identical. There's a reason the DeathAdder has been so popular for so long: The shape creates an extremely comfortable feel in hand. But aesthetically speaking, it may as well be the same mouse.

The number of buttons has climbed from seven to eight: two primary click panels, a scroll wheel button, and two DPI-switch buttons in the center column on top, plus the familiar forward and back buttons on the side and the added button on the underside that lets you cycle through the DeathAdder's new onboard profiles.
The two RGB lighting elements are the same: Both sides of the scroll wheel light up, as does the logo in the base. The signature DeathAdder shape returns-a typical right-handed design, with large click panels that flare off to either side. You'd be hard pressed to spot the difference between the DeathAdder V2 and any of its recent predecessors just by looking at it. These updates create a device that can go toe to toe with any other mainstream gaming mouse, though they don't bring a new killer feature that makes the V2 stand out. The $69.99 DeathAdder V2 brings the old reliable up to date, integrating some of the new tech Razer's introduced lately, including the uber-powerful Focus+ optical sensor, infrared optical switches, and a dedicated profile-switching button on the mouse's bottom.
(In 2019, the company announced it had sold 10 million units across the line.) Other than a scaled-down Essential model last year, however, the franchise mouse hasn't received a major refresh since the DeathAdder Elite in 2016. The DeathAdder, a basic right-handed, wired gaming mouse with a distinctive top shell, is the backbone of Razer's peripheral lineup.
